WOODBURY COUNTY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — UPDATE (6/23/2024 @3:18 p.m.): Highway 20 in Correctionville is being entirely closed, officials say.
A detour has been established for westbound traffic using 59 south to Ida Grove. Eastbound drivers will be turned away at Minnesota Avenue.
No travel is advised on Highway 20 in Correctionville. Officials said that “failure to obey road closure signs will be subject to a ticket or arrest.” They also warn that it may be too dangerous for rescue efforts after dark, and local authorities may not be able to assist.
The forecasted crest time for the Little Sioux River at Correctionville is Monday at 1 a.m. They are asking resident to consider evacuation at this time. As such, they recommending checking any persons’ and pets’ health needs before leaving and to communicate with friends or family once in a safe location.
UPDATE (6/23/2024 @12:37 p.m.): The City of Correctionville has started asking for some resident to leave their homes as a precaution.
According to the city, all of Birch Street at this time is to be evacuated.
Woodbury County Emergency Management said in a release that residents remain off the roads so first responders can move freely.
The city’s community center is available for anybody that needs a place to go.
In Sioux City, the Larsen Park boat ramp has been closed. The city is working to put up a temporary levy in Riverside. Officials said it being done out of caution as current prediction “do not indicate it will be needed.” More roads in the area may be closed if needed.
In Anthon, the city is asking for volunteers to fill sandbags at the Anthon City Shelter House. They ask any volunteers to bring shovels if available.
PREVIOUS (6/23/2024 @9:39 a.m.): Highway 31 and 160th Street are currently shutdown due to flooding in Correctionville.
According to Woodbury County Emergency Management, The Little Sioux River started to flood in Correctionville early Sunday morning. This flooding led to significant water coverage on Highway 31 and 160th Street, resulting in the Iowa Department of Transportation shutting them down.
Woodbury County Emergency Management said there is also significant flooding in Copeland Park.
Officials are reminding people that you should not drive in flooded areas and say, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
