SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Siouxland youth are enjoying quality time outside this summer thanks to several programs offered by local parks and recreation workers.

On Wednesday at Dale Street Park, games such as basketball and four square were keeping kids active. The summer activities program is free but requires pre-registration. The kids meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m.

“We do a lot of stuff,” activities director Carter Gill said. “We play games here all the time. We’re usually playing kickball, capture the flag, drawing with chalk or coloring.

There’s more than just games: they also go on field trips, and safety is their main priority.

“We do like rock climbing, we went to launch pad yesterday,” Carter said. “We just try to get them back into the community… we go places and whenever we do, we give them a form to sign and that kind of stuff. It’s totally safe.”

The youth program goes until August 8. It’s available for kids ages 6 to 12. Registration is available by calling 712-279-6126 ext. 1 or by clicking here.
