Mt. Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney plays at 'Field of Dreams' site

DYERSVILLE, IOWA (KELO) — The Mt. Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney legion baseball team was the home team Tuesday, but their game was almost 500 miles away.

The Padres played Faulkton in a legion baseball contest, but it was played in Dyersville, Iowa, home of the ‘Field of Dreams’ movie site.

The team rented the field back in the winter and then later reached out to Faulkton to see if they wanted to play.

The two teams agreed to play on Tuesday, setting up long drives for each squad.

The game had a more down to earth feel as there were no foul fences or dugouts. The players thought the opportunity was amazing, but so did the parents who grew up watching the movie.

“It was really cool. Maybe even more so for our parents because that movie is kind of more in their time frame than the kids’, but I think the kids really enjoyed it too,” MVPCS head coach Deric Denning said.

Mt. Vernon/Plankinton won the game 17-0.

Denning says that all but one of the players on the team has seen ‘Field of Dreams’ which was released nearly 35 years ago (1989).
