For several years the whole Bible has been read publicly and audibly in our nation’s Capitol before the legislative session begins.
The same has been done in our state Capitol. For several years now our governor has issued a proclamation asking the people of Iowa to read through the Bible in each county around the 4th of July or Labor Day.
This year, Ringgold County will be conducting the Bible Reading Marathon June 27 and 28.
The Old Testament and New Testament have been divided into five parts and will be read in five towns in the county—Diagonal, Kellerton, Mount Ayr, Redding, and Tingley.
People of all ages are encouraged to come between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and read an assigned number of chapters lasting about half an hour.
If enough readers come, the whole Bible will be read aloud in the county in the two days.
President Andrew Jackson called the Bible “the rock on which our republic rests”, President Reagan said, “Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all problems men face”, Moses said “—man does not live by bread alone, man lives by everything that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord”, and Jesus repeated what Moses said.
Based on these statements, organizers say it behooves us to read and hear “every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”, (Matthew 4:4). Step up to the Bible
They encourage everyone to join the reading marathon and read some of what God has to say to us today.
