WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (WHO) — UPDATE (5:30 p.m.): Seven kids and two adults were transported to several different local hospitals according to the West Des Moines Police Department.

“So we like to say apparent minor injury because we weren’t doing lifesaving procedures on anyone at the scene,” said Sergeant Adam Porath with the West Des Moines Police. “So I don’t know specific injuries, but it doesn’t appear that anyone has life threatening injuries.”

Porath said that a caller reported the crash happening just after 2 p.m. According to officials, the day care van was driving northbound on 88th Street and the semi truck was traveling southbound. The van had 10 children and one adult driver in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The truck had two adult passengers.

West Des Moines PD says that it appeared the driver of the van lost control and went into the southbound lane colliding with the semi truck causing the truck to leak diesel fuel. The semi was also carrying a full load of drywall when the accident had occurred. Police were on the scene within minutes along with fire and EMS services. Des Moines Hazmat units, Dallas County Emergency Management and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources came out to assist with the diesel fuel that had potential to get into storm drains and cause further damage.

There are no charges currently filed, no one arrested at this point. If it comes Porath says it will be later. Right now it is just the preliminary investigation to determined what happened.
