DES MOINES, Iowa — Ty Patton, an Iowan and former Sports Information Director at Drake University, competed on Monday’s episode of Jeopardy.

Patton has been a lifelong fan of the game show but didn’t start trying to get on the show until two and a half years ago when he first took an online test. After another proctored test and talks with the producers of Jeopardy Patton was invited to compete.

Patton said that he was lucky to get on the show so quickly.

“So my yeah, so my journey kind of from like starting the process to getting on was probably about two and a half years, which I actually feel blessed that it was that short. There’s some people that try for decades and like some of the best players ever be on the game took them three four you know five times tries to get on,” Patton said.

Patton had tough competition on the show, facing off against 13-game champion Adriana Harmeyer. Patton stayed competitive but ultimately lost during Final Jeopardy to Harmeyer by only $201.

“To use a sports analogy it was like a one-possession game. I made my shot, the other team had another possession. We did everything we could do, everything we needed to do and you know they just hit a well-defended three as time expired basically,” Patton said.

In high school, Patton was voted most likely to be on Jeopardy.
