SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center announces a list of summer programs being hosted in the month of June.

On Saturday, June 22, three programs will be held by the Nature Center, Siouxland Zen, Nature Hike, and Meet a Turtle.

Siouxland Zen will be held at 8:30 a.m. Participants are invited to sit in meditation (zazen), take a meditative walk in the woods (kinhin), and do gentle movement/embodiment practice (qigong). Participants are asked to wear outdoor clothes and bring their own cushion or chair. Beginners are welcome.

Siouxland Zen meditates each Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. For more information, email dpecaut@gmail.com or visit their Facebook page.

The Nature Hike will start at 10 a.m. with the meet at the front desk. All ages are welcome. Registration is not required.

Meet the Turtle will start at 2 p.m. with the meet inside the Nature Center. Participants are invited to learn about and meet one of the Nature Center’s resident Box Turtle animal ambassadors that lives at the Nature Center.

On Wednesday, June 26 join the Nature Center for an Outdoor Yoga Class. The class is free and will start at 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. During the class, participants will go on a short walk to Mount Lucia and practice yoga. In case of inclement weather, the class will be moved inside. The yoga call will be a gentle flow focusing on stretching and relaxation. Participants are asked to bring their own towel or yoga mat.

On Saturday, June 29 there will be two events a Nature Hike and Owl Inspired Painting.

The Nature will begin at 10 a.m. with the meet at the front desk. All ages are welcome and registration is not required.

The Owl-Inspired Painting event will be held at 1 p.m. This program is designed for families with a limit of 20 participants. At this event, participants will learn about owl and their adaptations for surviving in the wild with Summer Naturalist, Carlie. After learning about the owls, participants will be able to create a painting of an owl on an 8×10 canvas.
