Severe weather hits Siouxland, causes damage

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Severe weather rolled across parts of Siouxland Wednesday night, including a tornado reported between Decatur, Nebraska and Onawa, Iowa.

The storm system moved south down Interstate 29 at around 7:30 p.m. A tornado warning was issued for Monona County at around that time, with reports of hail three inches wide in Harrison County, as well as 3.5 inch hail in Onawa.

A funnel cloud was briefly reported near of Decatur that was a confirmed tornado for a bit, with no damage reports yet. One family and their vehicle, driving in Iowa, weren’t so lucky.

“Saw the storms hitting Onawa, and I wanted to come up and check my cabin,” Alison Blumer told Iowa Media Wire 9. “We thought the storms would be passed. We were watching the radar, I was very vigilant with that, and we drove right into it just north of Modale. We got pummeled and we could see the funnel cloud right in front of us.”

In Decatur, evidence of strong winds was scattered everywhere. Trees, tree limbs and some branches littered streets and yards.

Iowa Media Wire 9 has not heard of any confirmed injuries.
