SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Woodbury County Emergency Management announced a series of disaster survival trainings across the county on Monday.  

According to a release, the comprehensive training sessions are free and designed to help residents learn the skills necessary to respond to several types of emergencies.

“Preparedness is a shared responsibility,” Woodbury County Emergency Management Coordinator Michael Montino said. “By providing these trainings, we aim to empower our community members to take proactive steps in safeguarding themselves and their loved ones during a disaster.”

The release noted that Woodbury County Sheriff Chad Sheehan is encouraging all Siouxlanders to attend one of the trainings.

“Do you want to be an asset or a liability to your loved ones in a time of crisis? Being prepared is crucial to being an asset when your family needs you most,” Sheehan said.  

Training will take place at the following times and locations:

  • June 18 at the Salix Community Center at 317 Tipton Street in Salix 
  • June 25 at the Security Institute at 4647 Stone Avenue in Sioux City 
  • June 27 at the Moville Fire Station at 24 West Main Street in Moville 
  • July 2 at the Smithland Fire Station at 112 Hickory Street in Smithland 

Each session will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. and include a variety of subjects such as preparedness and prevention; having enough food, water, and shelter supplies on hand; building an emergency kit; and more.
