SIOUX CITY, IOWA (Iowa Media Wire) – The Sioux City Bandits found themselves in a strange situation on Saturday evening: rooting for their arch rival Omaha Beef.
Playoff stakes were huge for Sioux City as the Bandits needed an Omaha win over the Carolina Cobras for a spot in the National Arena League championship. That’s exactly what they got.
Behind six touchdowns from Beef quarterback and former Nebraska signal-caller Tommy Armstrong, Omaha claimed the 54-31 win over Carolina to clinch the Bandits’ spot in their first league title game trip since 2018.
Reprising one of the oldest indoor football rivalries, the Sioux City Bandits will now face their longtime I-29 rival Omaha Beef in the NAL championship game on June 15th. Kickoff in Omaha is yet to be determined.
