SIOUX CITY, IOWA (Iowa Media Wire) – Two years ago Sioux City North softball won 11 games in the season. Fast forward two years later and the Stars have eclipsed that mark in the first three weeks of play, creating an impressive turnaround that’s making waves in the MRAC and Class 5A.
Through their first 14 games, the Stars have been like a shot out of a cannon. In that time the team has scored 124 runs, the most in Class 5A. They’ve become just as impactful in the circle with sophomore Joslyn Vogt laying claim as the current 5A leader with 77 strikeouts.
The results are starting to flow, and it’s the attitude that’s helped kickstart the heartbeat of the group. Sioux City North has only three seniors on roster, but they say it’s their positive outlook that’s built confidence towards wins.
“PMA: Positive Mental Attitude,” Sioux City North senior catcher Natalie Rasmussen said. “Eickholdt says it before every game. I try to say it to them in the huddles when we’re getting down and I go and talk to them. Always have a positive mental attitude.”
“It helps us not get in our heads as much and just to enjoy the sport as it is to take it seriously but not to the point where we’re just so nervous out there playing,” Sioux City North sophomore Joslyn Vogt said. “We have fun and I think it shows with our performance.”
“Losing as many seniors as I did last year and now having some girls step into those positions that haven’t had any varsity experience…. they have really bought into the process,” Sioux City North head coach Brent Eickholt said.
Sioux City North hosts Bishop Heelan for a doubleheader on Monday starting at 5:30pm.
