DES MOINES, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Monday that she has issued a disaster proclamation for Emmet and Dubuque Counties following severe weather on Monday, June 3.
The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program will be offering grants to those affected. These grants are for households up to 200% of the federal poverty level and are worth up to $5,000.
According to the governor’s office, the grants can be used for “home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses.” Reimbursements are also available for “actual expenses related to storm recovery,” but original receipts are required.
Anyone interested can click here to apply online or find a printable application here. Paper applications can be turned into a local Community Action Agency (Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. in the case of Emmet County). Residents will have 45 days starting June 6 to apply.
Another option is the Disaster Case Advocacy Program, which helps work with people to create a “disaster recovery plan” and get guidance on obtaining necessary services and resources. This program is available to people of all incomes.
More information on the Disaster Case Advocacy Program is available at local Community Action Agencies. Residents can access the program for 180 days following June 6.
