SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Sioux City police are reminding gun owners about necessary gun safety steps for National Gun Storage Check Week.
New research shows at least 86 unintentional shootings by children in 2024 so far, with 33 deaths. Officer Valerie Rose said to stay informed on the gun purchased.
“The responsibilities of being a gun owner is making sure that you’re familiar with the weapon itself, that you know how to safely fire it, that you know how to use it properly, and that you also know how to store it properly,” Rose said. “We also recommend that you store the ammo separately from the gun itself, and when you do store it, store it unloaded.”
The Sioux City Police Department has gun locks available at no cost just by stopping in at the front lobby.
