BOONE, Iowa—Tuesday is Primary Election Day in Iowa. The primary election is held for members of the political parties to nominate candidates for the General Election. There are three political parties in Iowa: the Democratic Party, the Libertarian Party, and the Republican Party. Winners of the primary election will have their names automatically placed on the general election ballot.

Polls will be open Tuesday morning from 7:00 until 8:00 in the evening.

Voter pre-registration deadline was Monday, May 20th. However, new registrants after the deadline, including on Election Day follow the established Election Day Registration procedures. Proof of identity and proof of residence will be required.
