SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The Sioux City Public Library is putting some fun into summer reading.
On Monday, a summer reading kickoff event happened at the downtown library. Members of the Sioux City Explorers were there to encourage people to read books while children are out of school.
Several other events are scheduled over the next couple of months, including a family board game day, a visit from Blank Park Zoo, and what is called “Imagination Builders”.
“I’m super excited, and we really worked to make the program more robust this year and to add more incentives as they read,” youth services manager Adrienne Dun said. “In the past we just want people to come in, we want you to get free books, but this year we’re putting more of an emphasis on reading because it is important to have them reduce that summer learning slide.”
This is the third year the adult summer reading program is available at the public library. All library events are free and open to the public.
