Onawa murder suspect's trial set for next year

ONAWA, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The jury trial of an Onawa man charged with murdering his wife has been scheduled for next year.

Jamie Allen, 48, will be put on trial starting January 28, 2025 at 9 a.m. in Monona County. Allen had already waived his right to a speedy trial in his written arraignment.

Allen was originally arrested and charged after Monona County officials received a 911 call reporting a shooting at about 5:42 p.m. on May 10. When authorities arrived at the scene,

they found a dead woman who was later identified as Allen’s wife Stacey Allen.

According to court documents, Jamie Allen shot his wife outside his home at 1901 Granite Street. He did so allegedly “having malice aforethought, willfully, deliberately, and with premeditation.”

Allen was arrested and booked into the Monona County Jail. He pleaded not guilty on May 23.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has assisted the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
