LE MARS, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) – The Le Mars Knights of Columbus built beds for sleep in heavenly peace Sunday afternoon. More than 50 members came together to build 50 beds for children in the area that are in need of a bed to sleep on.
This was the first time the Le Mars Knights of Columbus have built beds for the nonprofit.
“Our partnership with the Knights of Columbus is still very new, but they have come and helped us greatly with building the beds and also delivering as well,” said Sleep in Heavenly Peace Sioux City chapter president Meredith Davies-Vogt. “So I’m so excited to be in Le Mars today because that’s a special day when we get to pack up the whole warehouse and bring it up to Le Mars and have an offsite build, so that’s been extra special.”
Members were eager to start building and with the success of the build, the Le Mars chapter sees this as a yearly event for their organization.
“We decided hey let’s get involved with this because it’s a great thing to do because the first thing a kid needs is a good night’s sleep, and sleeping on the floor probably doesn’t give them a good night’s sleep,” said Le Mars Knights of Columbus Grand Knight John Peters. “So then they can have a good night’s sleep to be able to be productive in school the next day or just at home.”
The Knights also donated more than $14,000 to the nonprofit organization.
