Qualified recipients in the program are eligible to receive financial assistance in the form of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, which then can be used to buy selected groceries. The amount of benefits depends on the net income and household size.
Overall, food assistance in Grundy County reached a total of $1,037,525 in 2023, in comparison to $1,032,567 the year before.
Statewide, Polk County registered the largest amount of people receiving food stamps, with 50,042 recipients sharing a total of $101,313,004 in benefits. Linn County came in second, with 21,206 recipients receiving a sum of $42,386,851.
Grundy County ranked 80th in Iowa.
In 2023, a total of 267,741 Iowans, living in 133,097 households received food assistance benefits, totaling $524,184,590.
