Shame on Newton for closing the access to the cemetery, where many of our veterans are buried on Memorial Day weekend.
I and many others tried to access the cemetery from the east as we usually do, to decorate the graves of our families. Finding no access, and after driving around I came home and tried to find how to access the cemetery online. I drove around the morning after Memorial Day and finally found the detour. It made me do a lot of unnecessary driving and I am sure many people did not know of the road that it was on.
I had spoken with one family who had driven 90 miles to attend the veterans’ services and decorate family graves. I told them the services were at the America Legion, but I did not know for sure how to get into the cemetery unless it was on East 14th Street. I do hope they found the detour.
I did not feel this road was bad before they tore it up, but I feel the timing of repairs and replacement was done at a bad time.
