JOHNSTON, Iowa (WHO) — Following an initial storm survey of the damage caused by the deadly tornado that hit Greenfield on Tuesday, the National Weather Service has confirmed at least EF-3 damage.
Survey crews went out Wednesday morning to examine the damage to estimate the tornado’s strength. An EF-3 tornado has winds from 136-165 miles per hour.
The NWS says more damage assessment evaluations will be done over the next several days and the rating could change based on the information collected.
There are two other NWS Survey Teams out gathering information on tornado paths and damage assessments. One is looking at an area southwest of Greenfield that includes Adams County, and portions of Taylor, Montgomery, Page, and Union counties. The other is looking at an area near the Des Moines metro including Dallas, Polk, Story, Marshall, and Jasper counties.
