DES MOINES, Iowa—For the first time in four years, there are no drought conditions in Iowa. About 25% of the state is considered Abnormally Dry with most of that focused in Eastern Iowa. However, there is a portion of Boone County considered Abnormally Dry and that’s about 30% of the southern part of the county.

A new program about “Junk Journaling” will be featured, Tuesday evening at 6:30. Mr. Z will do the Afterschool Science Program at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30th. Many regular programs continue in November. The library will be closed on Veterans Day and on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday, November 28th, but will be open regular hours on Saturday, November 29th.

See also Mikaela Kienitz, CEO Boone County Hospital, Health Talk. Kienitz reviews information on the financial position through the first quarter of the fiscal year. She also says the Board had received the final audit report, but didn’t have enough time for a review. They had received information last month, a preliminary look at the audit and will consider adopting the audit when they meet in early December. A big impact on the audit has been the loss of the second operating room due to the sprinkler head malfunction in July. Work to rebuild the second operating room is expected to be completed this week. Aired Monday, October 27, 2025.

The meeting of the Outgoing Board was held Wednesday, followed by the Organizational Board Meeting. She talked about the service from retiring Board Members Jeremy Pritchard and Dr. Ryan Huffman and about the new Board Members sworn in on Wednesday, Neil Nerem and Dr. Nancy Woods. She talked about the Public Hearings that will be held in December for the transfer of funds through Flexible Accounts. She also talked about the upcoming holiday schedule.
