Monday, June 3 will mark the seventh day since the Memorial Day holiday. In accord with the Violet Hill Cemetery’s regulations for grave decoration, all decorations that do not conform to the regulations will be removed by cemetery workers.
The city regulations state that between April 1 and Nov. 15, all decorations at the Violet Hill Cemetery must be either contained in a vase, placed upon the monumental headstone or hung from an ornamental lawn hook.
Three holiday exceptions to this general rule apply:
- On Memorial Day, decorations are allowed 10 days before and seven days after the holiday.
- On Mother’s Day, decorations are allowed five days before and five days after the holiday.
- On Father’s Day, decorations are allowed five days before and five days after the holiday.
All loose flowers or decorations must be removed by April 1.
The city does not restrict organizational emblems placed beside headstones in honor of deceased members of the Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, American Legion or Perry Volunteer Fire Department. Flags placed on emblems must be consistent with Memorial Day regulations.
