UPDATE: Most landline services across Iowa have been restored, including all 911 services. Scott Emergency Communications Center, Emergency Management and most partners have restored landline service.

UPDATE: The city of Bettendorf is restoring its regular phone service for all its facilities after Lumen (formerly CenturyLink) reported that its outage has been resolved by Friday morning.

The Clinton County Sheriffs Office and Clinton County Communications were notified the damaged equipment, causing the 911 landline outage, was repaired and the 911 telephone lines were back in service.

UPDATE: The Muscatine Emergency Management Agency said in a news release that Muscatine County is also affected by the outage.

WHO is reporting that the issue stems from a water pipe break at Lumen Technologies on 10th Street and High Street in Des Moines.

Lumen released a statement, saying “Our techs are working hard to fix a service disruption, caused by a water pipe break, which is affecting landline 911, phone, and Internet service for some customers in Central and Eastern Iowa. Restoring impacted services is our top priority. We’ll provide regular updates, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

EARLIER: Iowa residents who would normally call 911 from a landline need to use cell phones to contact authorities due to a statewide connection outage.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Clinton County Communications emailed a news release on May 30 saying there is a landline 911 outage that is impacting a vast majority of the state of Iowa, including all of Clinton County.

This temporary 911 outage only affects landlines. Residents who need to report an emergency or need an emergency response from law enforcement, fire or EMS should call 911 from a cell phone. All cell phone lines can make 911 calls.

The cause of the 911 landline outage has been identified but there is no estimated time of repair. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Clinton County Communications will update residents when the 911 landline has been repaired and is back in service through social media and media outlets.
