AMES, Iowa (WHO) — An investigation is underway in Ames after a body was found in a burning vehicle in a Walmart parking lot Wednesday night.
The Ames Police Department and the Ames Fire Department were called to the Walmart at 534 S. Duff Avenue around 6:48 p.m. on a report of a vehicle fire, according to a news release from APD. A deceased person was found inside the vehicle.
The name of the person will be released after identification has been made and the next of kin has been notified.
APD said it doesn’t believe there was, or is, any threat to the public from the incident.
The ATF, Iowa State Fire Marshal Division, and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner. are assisting APD and AFD in the investigation.
