A familiar face is returning to the Newton School Board. Former Board President Cody Muhs was unanimously selected to fill a vacant board seat last(Monday) night. Muhs and Hilary Foster Foster told board members about their interest in filling Liz Hammerly’s seat. And it was Muhs’ past board experience that led to his selection.

That’s School Board member Travis Padget. Board member Ray Whipple agreed.

Muhs took the oath of Office last night. He left the Newton School Board in late November of 2021 after not seeking re-election. The same night of his last school board meeting, he was given an individual achievement award from the Iowa Association of School Board’s Better Boardsmanship Program. Hammerly resigned from the Newton school Board a month ago, citing increasing time demands with her job at the Heartland Area Education Agency.
