MINDEN — The town of Minden in Western Iowa suffered some of the worst of the damage in Friday night’s tornado outbreak.
The small town of just 600 in Pottawattamie County was one of the first Iowa communities hit by a tornado.
Larry Ellers watched as two funnels started to come right towards his home. He said the last one was big and he took cover in the basement. “I just made it down there when it started blowing the glass out of the patio doors,” said Ellers.
He was one of several in the community with severe home and property damage. Governor Kim Reynolds says at least 180 homes were damaged and probably around 40% are destroyed.
Governor Reynolds issued a disaster declaration for Pottawattamie County Friday night.
