The National Weather Service’s Preliminary Assessment of the tornado that touched down just east of Monroe Friday night puts it’s rating at EF-1. The Weather Service says it touched down in a farm field just north of East Sherman Street off Monroe’s southeast side. It then headed northeast for 2.23 miles with peak winds of 105 mph and a maximum width of 50 yards. The weather service says during its 4 minutes on the ground, the tornado crossed Republic Avenue West and Rodeo Avenue. It actually crossed Rodeo Avenue three times; going over the south section….the north end of the the north-south section…and just west of the curve where that’s West of West 8th street South. From Rodeo Avenue the twister continued northeast into more fields before lifting at the northeast corner of South 112th Avenue West and West 8th Street South. The time the tornado was on the ground according to the Weather Service…was from 9:42 p.m. tp 9:46 p.m.
