IOWA CITY, IOWA (Iowa Media Wire) – Questions have circled around the Iowa Hawkeyes quarterback situation this spring. As fans speculate on who will be the starter, Deacon Hill will no longer be a part of that conversation, announcing on social media he’ll be entering the transfer portal.

Hill started the final nine games for Iowa following Cade McNamara’s season-ending knee injury, throwing for 1,152 yards and five touchdowns while adding a pair on the ground. The junior has been working with the first team this spring while McNamara continues to recover from surgery.

This will be the California native’s second time around in the transfer portal. Hill began his career at Wisconsin before his one season stint in Iowa City.

The departure of Hill leaves the Hawkeyes with only two scholarship QB’s in McNamara and redshirt freshman Marco Lainez. Lainez played in the Citrus Bowl last season for the Hawkeyes, completing two of his seven passes for 4 yards while adding 51 rushing yards. Also on the roster is another redshirt freshman in Tommy Poholsky, who has not seen any game action with Iowa.

Many teams are still working the transfer portal, and the Hawkeyes may be one of them.
