There’s talk of adding a new Shelter type building without sides on the Jasper County fairgrounds in Colfax. Fair Board member Ed Machin and former longtime Board member Doug Woebbeking have a commitment from the County Board of Supervisors to contribute 20-thousand dollars of this current year’s local option sales tax revenue to the project.

That was Machin speaking to the County Supervisors last week. Woebbeking talked about the potential use of the extra facility–which has been referred to as an event center- during the fair, and year round.

The estimated construction costs for the opened sided structure from Freedom Buildings Incorporated is just over 88-thousand 600-dollars. The added cost of materials for a concrete floor puts the total cost at just over 137-thousand dollars. The fair representatives noted the facility could also be rented out as a Community Building from April to September. Supervisor and County Board Chairman Brandon Talsma was all for helping out financially.

Woebbeking believes the Supervisors 20-thousand dollar donation will help boost fundraising from other potential donors.

The two fair representatives are working to get the so-called event center up before this year’s fair starts July 19th. The 2024 Jasper County Fair theme is  Stars, Stripes, and County Fair Nights.
