For the second straight day Tuesday, a new record High Temperature was set in Newton. A 28 year old record high temperature was broken Monday when the high reached 76 degrees. Newton’s prior record High for February 26th was 67 set in  1896. Yesterday(Tuesday)  a new record High was established for February 27th…as we recorded a High of 66 at the KCOB studios. That breaks the previous record High of 62, set in 1981. Today’s(Wednesday’s) forecast calls for a high of just 31. 55 and 59 are the expected High’s in Newton the next two days. National Weather Service Meteorologist Kristy Carter says  warmer and potentially new record high temperatures are expected for this weekend, which is the first weekend in March. The first official day of Spring is March 19th.
