DES MOINES, Iowa — It’s a startling statistic: one in 12 high school students experience physical and or sexual violence in a dating relationship. To help those impacted, February calls attention to Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

WHO 13’s Calyn Thompson sat down with Lindsay Pingel, the director of community engagement for the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence, to learn more about what to look for when it comes to teen dating violence and how to offer support.

If you need help, call the Iowa Victim Service Call Center at 1-800-770-1650 or text “IOWAHELP” to 20121. It’s available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All services are free and confidential.
