DES MOINES, Iowa — The 105th Girl’s High School State Basketball Tournament starts at Wells Fargo Arena on Monday.
The tournament sets the stage for the best high school athletes in the state to compete.
Jean Berger, the Executive Director of the Iowa Girl’s High School Athletic Union, said that the tournament also brings together communities.
“This is a community event for those schools. This is where their communities come together and they come to Des Moines to watch their teams play. And so it is kind of an Iowa tradition the girl’s basketball tournament.” Berger said.
The first teams to play on Monday are out of Class 5A and it’s a field dominated by Des Moines metro teams.
- Johnston (1) vs. West Des Moines Valley (8) — 10:00 a.m.
- Waukee (4) vs. Ankeny Centennial (5) — 11:45 a.m.
- Davenport North (2) vs. Cedar Falls (7) — 1:30 p.m.
- Dowling Catholic (3) vs. Pleasant Valley (6) — 3:15 p.m.
