A 30 year old Newton woman has been placed on 3 years probation for exposing her two daughters to dangerous drugs. Elizabeth Ann Mason Merritt also has to pay two 1-thousand 250-dollar civil penalties. She pleaded guilty to two counts of Child Endangerment with Injury, while two counts of Driving with a Barred License have been dismissed. According to Court papers, Mason Merritt’s then 3 and 9 year old daughters were removed from her care by Iowa Department of Human Services on June 10th 2022. Five days later…the DHS had the children tested for drugs. According to police…the 3 year old tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, Benzodiazepine, and cannabinoids. The 9 year old had cocaine, methamphetamine, and benzodiazepine in her system. Mason Merritt was then taken into custody on a warrant July 27th 2022.
