A 21 year old Newton man was arrested late last(Tuesday) night for allegedly causing injuries to his months old child. Newton Police have charged Brady Nathanual McDaniel with two counts of Neglect of a Dependent Person, one count of Child Endangerment Causing Serious Injury, and 1st Offense Possession of Marijuana. Officers took him into custody around 11p.m. at his 603 East 3rd Street Apartment. At the time, police say he was in possession of a THC vape containing a substance consistent with THC Wax. This arrest is the result of an investigation into concerns expressed by the child’s mother, and a non-custodial interview McDaniel had with Newton Police January 4th. Court documents say during the interview McDaniel described an incident in early November, when he forcefully bottle fed his 1 and a half month old child. He states the child was accustomed to breastfeeding and would turn away from the bottle. So out of irritation he forcefully put the bottle nipple into the infant’s mouth. During an exam at Blank’s Children’s Hospital, police say the child was found to have an injured tongue. The mother also supplied officers photos of her child bleeding from the mouth after the incident. McDaniel, during his police interview, also described an early December incident where he forcefully squeezed his then two month old child’s abdomen out of frustration because he could not stop the child’s crying. This resulted, according to Blank’s Children’s Hospital, in the infant sustaining rib fractures that have partially healed. McDaniel is being held in the Jasper County Jail, pending his initial court appearance.
