The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors is discussing the possibility of changing the county’s inclement weather policy for county employees.
According to the employee handbook the Board of Supervisors must decide if county offices will close during inclement weather. However, the handbook also states that elected county officials like the county auditor can still make the executive decision to remain open.
According to County Supervisor Lee Dimmitt during the major snowstorm that blew through southeast Iowa in January, the supervisors did close the courthouse, however, court offices remained open causing confusion among county residents.
The supervisors will discuss the inclement weather policy during a department head meeting which will be held later today and may re-visit the issue next Monday.
