A 35 year old Newton man who’s a repeat drunk driving offender has been sentenced to 5 years in prison. District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda has also fined Jeffrey Dwayne Lee 3-thousand 125-dollars and revoked his drivers license for 6  years. Lee pleaded guilty to a December 5th 3rd Offense OWI charge, while a Driving with a Suspended License offense was dismissed. Around 11 p.m. December 5th…in the 28-hundred block of North 19th Avenue East…Newton Police say Lee had an accident, and admitted he was using his cellphone while driving.  Officers noted he had slurred speech and watery bloodshot eyes. Lee’s 2nd Offense OWI conviction was in late September of this past year. It stemmed from an offense in May of 2022. His first OWI conviction in February 2022,  was from an arrest in mid-December 2021.
