GREENE COUNTY, Iowa — An Iowa man accused of kidnapping his son from school is facing charges in Greene County, Iowa.
According to court documents, Brandon Duong took his son from his elementary school Tuesday afternoon. A school official contacted police about the incident, which then led to an Amber Alert being issued for the child, court documents state.
Duong’s vehicle was located just east of Remsen in Plymouth County Tuesday evening. According to law enforcement, Duong crashed his truck and then fled into a field with his son while armed with a rifle. Law enforcement eventually located him in the field and began to negotiate.
During the standoff Duong allegedly carried his son over his shoulders while officers had their guns drawn. A criminal complaint also accuses him of “using [his son] as a shield and a hostage” during the standoff.
After several hours, Duong surrendered and was taken into custody. He was originally booked into the Plymouth County Jail on a warrant for violating a custody order. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office said Duong would be transported to Greene County.
A complaint filed in Greene County Wednesday afternoon charges Duong with second-degree kidnapping – armed with a dangerous weapon, a Class B felony.
