Newspapers in Solon and Mt. Vernon have a new owner…and unlike similar cases around the country, it’s not a corporate conglomerate.
Iowa.Media announced Monday it had purchased The Solon Economist and The Mt. Vernon-Lisbon Sun. The two newspapers had previously been owned by Dubuque-based Woodward Communications.
The employees of the two publications will keep their jobs, although DI publisher Jason Brummond will serve as manager and publisher of the two acquisitions. Student journalists will help bolster the staffs, allowing them to gain experience in local reporting.
The DI will take over the two weekly newspapers with the February 8th editions.
