A Major step was taken last week in the search for Berg Middle School’s next Principal. Central Office Administrators say three finalists had formal interviews. They each met with interview teams made up of administrators and a mix of teachers, support staff, and three community members.  The candidates were given tours of Berg Middle School by students, and retiring High School Principal Bill Peters spoke with each candidate about the Newton community. As soon as the decision on a new principal is made, District leaders will release an announcement on who that is. Steve Seid is the current interim Berg Middle School Principal. It’s a position he’ll hold through the end of May.

He views his current role as adding his background and experience to enhance what the Middle School Staff has already established. The Newton Board of Education approved Seid’s hiring last month. He has stepped in for Brett Miller, who was placed on leave in late October.  The School Board then approved Miller’s resignation effective the end of next June. Seid was most recently the Superintendent of the Clarke Community School District in Osceola, where he served from 2014 until his retirement in June 2021.
