SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The Sioux City Public Museum announced that it will be hosting a discussion and featuring a short film in recognition of Black History Month.
According to a release, “Paving the Way: Black Sports Heroes of Sioux City Central High School” will take place on Saturday, February 3 at 10:30 a.m.
The release states that there will be a short film by local historian Jim Tillman then followed up with a panel presentation that will be emceed by Ike Rayford.
During the event, people will learn about significant people in history including The first black athlete in Central High School; Leland Washington in 1904, according to the release. He played left tackle and was honored as a member of the all-Iowa football team.
