SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The Morningside University Choir, under the direction of Dr. Ryan Person, is the winner of The American Prize in Choral Performance, College and University division.
The American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions is designed to recognize and reward the best-performing artists, directors, ensembles, and composers in the United States at professional, college/university, community, and high school levels, based on submitted recordings.
The Morningside Choir was selected from applications reviewed recently across the United States and received national recognition by being awarded The American Prize in Choral Performance for the college/university division (smaller program).
“We are very honored to accept this special recognition on behalf of Morningside,” Dr. Ryan Person, Director of Choral Activities, said. “Since the choir’s inception in 1925, generations of Morningside Choir singers have lifted their voices together on our campus, and we feel humbled to carry on this special tradition. Finally, we could not be more grateful for the continued support of Heath Weber, Dean for Visual and Performing Arts, the entire Morningside administration, and our exceptional performing arts faculty.”
According to the Morningside University’s website, the university honored the students who were part of the choir on Jan. 17 between the women’s and men’s basketball games versus Northwestern College.
Following the event, Morningside Choir members and choir alumni were invited to a gathering at Bob Roe’s Point After.
Clothing to celebrate the Morningside Choir is available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will assist students, who are part of the Morningside Choir, with traveling costs for their upcoming May term trip to South Africa.
