SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The Sioux City Art Center is presenting a new glass exhibition by an Omaha-based artist.
The exhibition titled, Therman Statom: Novella, includes glass sculptures in Stanton’s unique style, utilizing plate glass, paints, and other mediums.
Staton is recognized internationally for his innovative and experimental combinations of glass, painting, and mixed media in ambitious site-specific installations, wall-mounted vitrines, and blown glass heads.
This is Staton’s first exhibition at the Art Center and the artwork features a combination of reformatted earlier pieces and new artworks that have never been on view before.
There will be a free opening reception on Thursday, Feb. 1 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. including a presentation by Therman with Art Center Curator Christopher Atkins at 6 p.m.
Novella is supported, in part, by grants from the Gilchrist Foundation, Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Humanities Iowa, and the Art Center Association of Sioux City.
The exhibition will remain on display through July 14, 2024.
