Alex J. Kolthoff, 36, of Lenox, was taken into custody 11:37 p.m., Jan. 24 at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of child endangerment.
According to a Creston Police report, a juvenile in the care of Kolthoff made statements Kolthoff had been consuming alcohol and had operated a motor vehicle in his presence. Kolthoff lunged at the juvenile in a threatening manner and stuck him multiple times, causing a visible bruise. An audio recording was taken in which Kolthoff is heard using obscenities toward the juvenile.
Kolthoff and the juvenile separated from each other at the Creston Hy-Vee. Kolthoff’s actions caused the juvenile to feel scared and afraid for his safety and the juvenile cried throughout the entire interaction.
Kolthoff made statements similar to the juvenile’s report and admitted to being with the juvenile and consuming alcohol during the evening. During an interview with police, Kolthoff had bloodshot, watery eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person.
Kolthoff was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
