Senate President Amy Sinclair last week announced her re-election campaign for Senate District 12. District 12 includes all of Adair, Clarke, Decatur, Madison, Lucas, and Wayne counties, in addition to portions of Appanoose, Dallas, and Union counties. Senator Sinclair was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2012. She currently serves as the chair of the Government Oversight Committee and the vice chair of the Rules and Administration Committee.

“Education policy has been a focus of mine since I entered the Senate,” Sinclair said. “Last year I was thrilled to pass a Parents Bill of Rights to enshrine in state law the concept that parents have the final say in the education of their children, a major education deregulation bill to help local districts manage their schools in the best way possible, and comprehensive school choice for all Iowa parents.

“In addition to those reforms I have also voted to steadily reduce the tax burden, including the largest income tax cut in state history; eliminate needless red tape; and support law enforcement, but more work is yet to be done. It is an honor to represent southern Iowa in the Senate and I look forward to the opportunity to continue to cut taxes, control spending, and do more to improve our state.”

Sinclair serves in the State Senate with distinction. In her tenure, she has been recognized for her leadership by her fellow senators when they elected her to the position of President of the Senate. She has also been awarded many recognitions by national and state organizations for her accomplishments and leadership, including the Hoover Presidential Foundation, Iowa Health Care Association, Iowa Association of Christian Schools, The Family Leader, and American Legislative Exchange Council. While these accolades are appreciated, Sinclair takes pride in representing her constituents with integrity and grace.
