STORM LAKE, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — One person is dead after a crash involving three semis near Storm Lake.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, the crash took place Tuesday around 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and Iowa Highway 7/C-65, about two miles southeast of Storm Lake.

A 2013 Mack semi driven by Humberto Aladro-Valdes, 63, of Storm Lake, was going west on Highway 7 and failed to stop at the intersection, authorities said. The Mack semi then hit a 2023 Freightliner semi going north on Highway 71. The Freightliner semi then sideswiped the trailer of a third semi.

Authorities said Aladro-Valdes was ejected and died at the scene. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

No one else was injured.
