Vicki Stewart, 68, of Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Creston, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at her home in Maryville. Celebration of Life Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Tim Maxa will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open memorial visitation, with family to receive friends, will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m., prior to service time on Sunday.

Vicki J. Stewart was born March 8, 1955, to Frederick LeRoy and Norma Jean (Abbott) VanPelt in Clarinda. Vicki graduated from Creston Community High School in 1973.

In 1973 Vicki was united in marriage to Jim Stewart. They initially settled in Loveland, Colorado. She worked as a homemaker and was excited to start a family. Her first son, Kevin Stewart, was born in 1975. In 1976 they moved to Kirksville, Missouri, where her second son, Kyle Stewart, was born.

Eventually, in 1979, they moved for the final time to Maryville where Vicki resided for 44 years, aside from one year, 1983, spent in Charles City, before returning to Maryville. Vicki attended cosmetology school and became a licensed cosmetologist in addition to being an active mother and a proud homemaker. Vicki and Jim later divorced.

Vicki had her own business she operated out of her home, following that, she held a mix of retail, housekeeping and caretaking jobs before retiring in 2020. She spent a great deal of time during some of these years with Dennis VanGundy, who became her life partner. Vicki greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, often traveling to visit her sons and grandchildren in Alabama and Maryland. She also enjoyed cooking, music, going to concerts, gardening and simply going for a drive around town.

Vicki is survived by her brother, Rick (Ginger) VanPelt of Creston; her sons, Kevin (Meg) Stewart and children, Stella and Michael of Hoover, Alabama, and Kyle (Cameron) and children: Jackson, Brady and Charles of Damascus, Maryland; nieces, Kim (Jeff) Lutrick and children: Lincoln, Mitchell and Rachael of Mount Ayr, Linda (Marcus) Dickerson andchildren Ashley and Adam of Raleigh, North Carolina, Parker VanPelt of Creston, Dotty (Jami Lockhart) Neely of Fayette, Arkansas, and Sarah (Mark) Kraeszig and daughter, Alesha of Chicago, Illinois; nephews: Rick (Emily) VanPelt and children, Maxwell and Malcolm of Edina, Minnesota, Bill Neely of Springdale, Arkansas, Van Neely of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Corey (Krista) VanPelt and children, Vanessa and Matt of Bettendorf; sister-in-law, Sherry VanPelt of Bettendorf and several Abbott and VanPelt cousins.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents; life partner, Dennis VanGundy; brothers, Rich VanPelt and Tunie VanPelt and sister, Mary Neely.
